Everything people ask about PropertySieve, in one place. Can’t find yours? Email hello@propertysieve.com.
A free Chrome extension for your computer that works inside Rightmove and OnTheMarket. It hides homes that don’t fit your rules across every page of results, remembers every home and every price you’ve seen, flags relisted homes and red flags such as short leases, and keeps an eye on your shortlist for you.
The portals filter by price, bedrooms, property type and more. PropertySieve adds your own rules on top: words a listing must or mustn’t mention, areas to avoid, journey-time limits and red flags. It applies them to every page of results, and remembers what you’ve already seen and how prices have changed.
Rightmove and OnTheMarket today. The architecture treats portals as plug-in adapters, so others can follow.
PropertySieve is an independent, unofficial tool for personal use. It annotates pages you’re already browsing and is deliberately polite: spaced requests, early-stop scanning, opt-in background checks. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any property portal.
PropertySieve is a trading name of Popsall Ltd, registered in England & Wales (No. 16953262). It is independent and not affiliated with Rightmove plc or OnTheMarket plc.
Download the zip from the install page, unzip it, open chrome://extensions, switch on Developer mode and click Load unpacked. It takes about a minute, and a Chrome Web Store listing is on the way.
Yes. Developer mode only lets Chrome load extensions from a folder on your computer instead of the Web Store. It doesn’t change anything else, and you can switch it off again; Chrome may show a reminder about developer-mode extensions when it starts, which you can dismiss.
Not yet. PropertySieve runs in Chrome and other Chromium browsers: Microsoft Edge, Brave and Arc, on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS.
Not yet. Phone browsers can’t run extensions, so PropertySieve runs on your computer for now. A free phone companion app for iPhone and Android is coming soon.
When the install page or the extension’s About tab shows a new version, download the new zip, replace the folder’s contents and press reload on chrome://extensions. Your shortlist, notes and settings are kept, because they live in the browser, not the folder.
Open chrome://extensions and click Remove on PropertySieve. Chrome deletes everything it stored on your computer.
Checks run while Chrome is open (even minimised, no tabs needed). If Chrome was closed, the next check catches up; new listings are detected by their listing number, not by timing.
When a home you’ve already come across reappears under a new listing, PropertySieve recognises it from its address, size and type, and the property details the listing carries. It marks the new listing as relisted and shows when it first came to market and at what price.
Save a search and switch on re-checking in Settings, and PropertySieve checks it every 30 minutes while Chrome is open. New listings that pass your rules arrive as a notification and wait in New homes on your dashboard, where you can shortlist them or rule them out.
Yes. The Sieve tab narrows the results straight away, with no reload. Its property type, price and bedrooms apply to this search only. Its other filters, like journey times, size, EPC, flood zone and sold history, stay on across your searches until you reset them. While any are on, the toolbar says “sieved”, with a ✕ to reset.
Every home gets buttons that open Google Maps with the route to your saved places, with no setup. For times on the card, limits and sorting by journey, add a free OpenRouteService key in Settings; each time is worked out once and remembered.
Your shortlist, rules and notes stay in Chrome on your computer. To show house facts, the extension asks our server about a listing (its postcode, address and portal id, never anything about you), and price and status sightings are shared anonymously unless you switch that off. No accounts, no analytics. The full detail.
No. There is nothing to sign up for. If you buy Plus you get a licence key on your receipt, and your shortlist and settings stay in your browser either way.
HM Land Registry Price Paid data, the Energy Performance Certificate register, the UK House Price Index and Environment Agency flood maps, all under the Open Government Licence. PropertySieve matches them to the house the listing is for.
It works it out from the map pin, the house name or number and the photos, and says how sure it is. Facts about one house, such as its past sales and energy rating, are shown only when the match is confirmed by you or confident; otherwise you’re asked to pick.
Yes. Export a backup from the About tab at any time and import it on another computer, or turn on a weekly backup in Settings. Backups are saved in Downloads/PropertySieve/_backup.
Click Report a bug in the dashboard menu, the toolbar popup or the About tab. Describe what went wrong and, if you like, include the error log; you can see exactly what will be sent before you send it. No listing addresses or search details are included.
Everything that runs in your browser is free, for good: your rules, whole-search scans, your shortlist, notes and alerts. PropertySieve Plus adds what needs our data, such as sold prices, energy ratings and fair value for the exact house, and is free during the beta.
Plus will be £7.99 a month, £29 for six months or £49 for a lifetime licence, for UK buyers. While PropertySieve is in beta, Plus is free. See what Plus adds.
You’ll see a notice in the extension at least two weeks before Plus features need a subscription. Your rules, scans, shortlist, notes and in-browser alerts stay free.
No. The phone companion app will be free, for your shortlist, notes and viewing photos on the move.
